Charnwood parliamentary constituency elects County Councillors to Leicestershire County Council. the County Council is controlled by the Conservative Party and the Leader of the County Council is C/Cllr David Parsons from Kirby Muxloe. The County Council is responsible for the provision of servies such as Education, Social Services and Highways and Transportation.
The constituency also returns councillors to three local government districts, Charnwood, Blaby and Hinckley & Bosworth District Councils. District Councils has responsibility for the collection of Council Tax, Housing, and more local services such as recycling and street cleansing.
Following the May 2007 local elections, Charnwood District Council is now Conservative controlled.
Hinckley & Bosworth District Council is controlled by the Liberal Democrats and Blaby District Council is controlled by the Conservative Party.
